Federal managers need to know about Public Law 106-346.Section 359, as interpreted by OPM's memorandum to agencies, (2/9/2001). This law provides that telework requirements must be applied within four years to 100% of the the Federal workforce.

Telework makes good sense for both employers and employees. It is a practical solution to environmental and other quality of life issues as well as work/life challenges.

Telework is emerging as a critical work option. It can increase productivity, enhance employee work/life balance, cut commuting costs, and save money for taxpayers.

Telework is also important to maintain a steady workforce and resume business operations in the event of a natural or man-made disaster by implementing a Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP).
